I have been separated for a long time and lost touch with my spouse. Can I still get divorced if I do not know where he/she is?
Yes. The process is different and takes a bit longer, but it is certainly possible. It does not matter how long you have been separated or if your spouse is abroad and have lost contact with him/her.
If your spouse lives outside the United States and you are in touch with him/her, we can move forward with a normal uncontested divorce as long as the spouse is willing to cooperate. Some people put off the divorce because they think that both spouses have to be present at the final hearing. That is not true. If the proper documents are filed, your spouse does not have to be present at the final hearing. So you do not have to worry about the expense or inconvenience of having your spouse fly in for a court date.
If you do not know where your spouse is or have a spouse in another country who is willing to cooperate, please schedule a consultation by clicking on the “intake form” link below and filling it out to the best of your ability. We will contact you within 24 - 48 hours to schedule a personal or phone consultation with one of our attorneys.
